No Boundaries Cricket
Are you looking for a sport that has plenty of action, skill, fun and is suitable for all ages? Try No Boundaries Cricket! Whether you have been playing cricket for years or are totally new to the game, this version of cricket may be the sport for you. Teams consist of eight players (male and female) who have disabilities, aged 13 years to adult. No Boundaries Cricket is played indoors and the equipment and rules have been modified. All people with disability are catered for, including those who use a wheelchair. Teams currently operate in Bairnsdale, Sale, Traralgon, Yarram and the Latrobe Valley. Players can benefit from being involved in No Boundaries Cricket in the areas of skill development, fitness, friendship, being part of a team etc. Each No Boundaries Cricket team operates in a similar manner to other cricket teams. As such, support from family, friends and the general community is vital in ensuring the competition’s success. Let's DEW It Resource Kit DEW is an acronym for "Dancing East Gippsland & Wellington"The Let's DEW It Resource Kit is a comprehensive folder containing a range of resources to assist people who conduct or are involved with the provision of dance services in rural communities. The kit has been developed by a committee comprising a wide representation of community members of different levels of ability from the Wellington and East Gippsland shire areas. The result is a valuable resource and significant asset for people involved in providing dance opportunity to the community and in particular to provide that opportunity to people of all abilities. The kit includes sections on: Including others in your dance group; video of "Let's DEW It" Workshops with notes and reflections from those involved on how it can be used in other settings; funding and support sources for dance groups; legal issues; other resources including the "Let's DEW It" Dance Directory. The "Let's DEW It" Dance Directory is a comprehensive listing of the dance providers across the East Gippsland and Wellington Shire Council areas. From Old Time to hip hop, belly, ballet, ballroom and highland dancing along with contact details, venues, costs and times, the Directory assists the community to access the fun, recreational and health benefits of community dance. The "Let's DEW It" Resource Kit, and more information on how you can become involved in dance activities, are available from EGARAG and the Rural Access Project Officers at Wellington and East Gippsland Shires. SailabilitySailability provides sailing activities for people with disability thoughout Gippsland. During the sailing season (from November to April) groups operate at Loch Sport, Lake Guthridge in Sale and at the Paynesville Yacht Club. Sailability groups use the "Access Dinghy", a purpose designed, easy to sail, introductory craft. Unlike conventional sailing dinghies, the sailor sits in a comfortable "lazy chair" facing forward, steering is made easy with a simple joystick, and a weighted keel provides stability. A person with disability who can operate an electric wheelchair can also experience the exhilaration and independence of sailing. The aim of Sailability is to introduce people of all ages and abilities to the joys of sailing in a straightforward, fun, inexpensive way in a supportive environment. Most sailors just enjoy the freedom and fun of recreational sailing and the supportive social atmosphere, but there are also plenty of opportunities for the more competitive to develop their racing skills. The Rhythmn And Dance Club provides accessible music and dance events for and by people with disability. The RAD Club began in early 2004, following successful "Club Wild" activities. Dance and social activities are organised by a committee of local volunteers, including people with disability. Come and Try DaysMany sporting clubs hold days where for no or minimal cost you can try their sport, meet club members and gain an insight as to whether it is the sport for you. Companion CardThe Companion Card Scheme enables people with severe or profound disabilities to gain access to leisure and recreational opportuniites by making it cheaper to attend sport, entertainment and recreation venues or events registered with the Scheme. Approved card-holders pay for their own entry to venues or events, but an accompanying unpaid or paid carer is admitted free. TADVIC endeavours to solve equipment problems when there is no commercial product or service available.
