Great Breaks Respite:
EGARAG's Great Breaks programme provides respite for people aged between 16 – 65 years old, who have an unpaid carer. Camps and day activities have a community recreation focus, utilising community accommodation and activities such as sports, art and craft, tourism and relaxation activities. Great Breaks provides carers with a break from their role as a carer, and people with disability with opportunities to explore recreation options. This program is funded through the Department of Human Services. Recreation Support is an area of EGARAG’s services that is currently expanding. Many people regularly access community activities with the assistance of a Recreation Worker. These activities can include swimming, water aerobics, weight training, movies, cycling, art and craft, dancing, walking, window shopping/coffee, music, archery, kayaking, sailing etc. The only limit to what activities are possible, is your imagination and interests. Recreation Support can be long term, short term or occasional, on days and times to suit you – including nights and weekends. Activities are organised according to what you would like to do and can include club activities such as joining a basketball team, sightseeing type activities such as walking along a beach, adventure activities such as white water rafting, education such as craft lessons at a Neighbourhood House or just everyday outings like going to a café for a cup of coffee. It is your choice! Anyone can access Recreation Support. There is no eligibility criteria and is available to all ages, from kids to older adults.
